Nefertiti Neck Lift in Tulum: Botox for Neck Bands and a Refined Jawline
We spend years caring for our faces and very little time thinking about the neck. Yet the neck is often where time first becomes visible: vertical cords that appear when we speak or tense, a jawline that looks a little less crisp in photographs, a softness beneath the chin that no serum seems to touch. Many of our patients notice it on holiday, of all places — in the honest light of a beach photograph, or a mirror catching them mid-laugh.
The Nefertiti neck lift is one of the most elegant answers to the first two of those concerns. Named after the Egyptian queen whose sculpted profile has defined grace for more than three thousand years, it uses carefully placed Botox to soften neck bands and sharpen the line between jaw and neck. It is subtle, quick and requires no downtime. It is also widely misunderstood, so this guide sets out what it is, who it suits, and — just as importantly — what it cannot do.
What Is a Nefertiti Neck Lift?
Beneath the skin of your neck lies a thin, sheet-like muscle called the platysma. It runs from the collarbones up over the jaw, where it blends with the muscles of the lower face. Its job is modest — it helps pull the corners of the mouth downward and tenses the neck — but over time it can become the main character of how your neck looks.
With age, the edges of the platysma tend to separate and become more visible as vertical bands. At the same time, its downward pull along the jaw works against the muscles that lift the lower face, gradually blurring the jawline. A Nefertiti neck lift places small amounts of Botox into the visible bands and along the lower border of the jaw. The muscle relaxes, the bands soften, and the lifting muscles of the face meet less resistance. The result is a smoother neck and a cleaner, more defined contour along the jaw.
Key Point: A Nefertiti lift does not lift skin in the way surgery does. It rebalances muscle. That distinction explains both why it can look so natural, and why it is not right for everyone.
Who Is the Ideal Candidate for Neck Botox?
The patients who see the most graceful results from Botox for neck bands tend to share a few characteristics:
- Visible vertical bands that become more prominent when speaking, exercising or clenching the jaw.
- Good skin quality with mild to moderate laxity — the skin still has some natural spring.
- A jawline that has softened slightly rather than one that has significant jowling or loose skin.
- A preference for subtlety — the wish to look refreshed rather than altered.
It is commonly chosen by patients in their late thirties through their fifties, though age matters less than anatomy. Some people have prominent bands at thirty-five; others have barely any at sixty. Patients who clench or grind often benefit from considering the lower face as a whole, and may combine a neck treatment with masseter Botox for a balanced, slimmer lower third.
What Neck Botox Cannot Do
In an honest consultation, this conversation matters as much as the one about benefits. Botox relaxes muscle. It does not remove fat, tighten significantly loose skin, or erase the fine horizontal "necklace" lines that come from skin creasing rather than muscle pull. For those concerns, other approaches are usually more effective:
- Skin laxity: energy-based tightening such as Ultherapy, or collagen stimulators like Sculptra.
- Fullness beneath the chin: non-surgical fat reduction or, in some cases, a surgical opinion.
- Horizontal lines and crepey texture: skin-quality treatments such as microneedling, carefully chosen fillers or skin boosters.
- Pronounced jowls or heavy skin: a conversation with a facial plastic surgeon may serve you better than injectables.
We would always rather tell you a neck treatment is not your best investment than perform one that disappoints.
What to Expect During a Nefertiti Lift Appointment
The Consultation
We begin by watching your neck move. You will be asked to clench your teeth, grimace and speak, so that we can see exactly which bands activate and how the platysma pulls on the jaw. We look at skin quality, the angle between chin and neck, and the balance of the whole lower face. We also review your medical history, medications and any previous treatments.
The Treatment
The injections themselves take about fifteen minutes. Using a very fine needle, small amounts of Botox are placed superficially along each visible band and at several points along the jawline. Most patients describe the sensation as light, brief pinches; the skin of the neck is delicate but the injections are shallow. Topical numbing is available if you would like it.
Precision and Dosing
This is a treatment where restraint and anatomical knowledge are everything. The neck contains muscles involved in swallowing and in supporting the head, and these sit deeper than the platysma. Placing the product superficially, in measured amounts, is what makes the treatment both safe and natural. Dosing is individual — tailored to the strength of your bands and the shape of your jaw — and a cautious first treatment with a review at two weeks is often wise.
Timeline: You may notice the bands softening within three to five days. Full results settle at around two weeks and typically last three to four months, similar to Botox elsewhere on the face.
Recovery, Side Effects and Safety
There is no true downtime. You can walk out into the Tulum sunshine, have lunch and continue your day. For the first few hours we ask you to stay upright, avoid massaging the area, and postpone strenuous exercise until the following day. Our pre- and post-Botox care guide covers the full routine.
The most common side effects are mild and temporary: small bumps that settle within an hour, slight tenderness, and occasional pinpoint bruising. Less common, and the reason experience matters so much, are effects from product reaching deeper muscles — such as temporary neck weakness or difficulty swallowing. These are rare in experienced hands when conservative, superficial technique is used, and they resolve as the Botox wears off. Please tell us if you have a neuromuscular condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have any concerns about swallowing; in those situations neck Botox is not appropriate.
Planning Neck Botox Around a Stay in Tulum
For visitors, the Nefertiti lift is one of the most travel-friendly treatments we offer. A few thoughts on timing:
- Book early in your stay. Treating in the first few days lets you enjoy the full result before you leave, and ideally allows a review if you are here for two weeks.
- Before a special event, plan treatment at least two weeks ahead so the result is fully settled for photographs.
- Swimming and sun: wait until the next day for the ocean, cenotes or vigorous yoga, and keep wearing sunscreen on the neck — it is one of the most sun-exposed and least protected areas of the body.
- Flying home a day or two after treatment is generally fine.

Combining the Nefertiti Lift With Other Treatments
The neck rarely ages in isolation, and the most refined results often come from considering the face and neck together. A Nefertiti lift pairs beautifully with jawline and chin filler when structure, rather than muscle pull, is the main concern; with skin-quality treatments for texture; and with Botox in the upper face for overall harmony. We would never suggest everything at once. A thoughtful plan, staged over time, keeps the result quiet and believable.
A Graceful Line, Quietly Restored
The beauty of the Nefertiti neck lift lies in how little it asks of you: fifteen minutes, no downtime, and a result that most people will read simply as you looking well. Approached with honesty about what it can and cannot do, it is one of the most rewarding refinements in aesthetic medicine.
